The large main contractors continue to put specialists under financial pressure with one in 10 claiming to have been excluded from approved lists according to a nationwide survey of its members by the CCS, the Confederation of Construction Specialists.

CCS members who between them account for an annual turnover of nearly £3 billion say they now have to provide more information to main contractors than ever before or lose valuable contracts.

More than 30% of those surveyed also claimed they have now been asked to pay for the advantage of dealing with main contractors in the future by buying into accreditation schemes. But even more worrying for specialists is that over 10% have already been excluded from such lists for non-compliance.

CCS spokesmen Richard Noble commented: “We hold regular surveys as part of an on-going exchange of information with members. This way we can represent them more efficiently. On this occasion we decided to include additional questions relating to main contractors and we were surprised and disappointed by some of the responses.”

“Talks over the years of a working partnership with specialists to improve efficiency and reduce costs continue to be ignored by all but a few main contractors. Little progress seems to have been made in spite of pleas by Egen, Latham and many others”

“We can prove that when our members can work in such a way, that the benefits are enormous with projects delivered on time and in budget but the trends from our survey are not good. It seems that more and more main contractors want to tighten their grip on the specialists and this cannot bode well for the construction industry.”

CCS members were surveyed in May as part of the Confederation’s policy to provide a stronger voice within the construction industry for specialists who provide the backbone of the nation’s building business.

Such is the financial grip on specialists that 85% of those surveyed claimed that they have to show all accounts to main contractors on a regular basis and worryingly only 6% claim to have been paid directly from a project bank account. Such accounts should be set up at all times to ensure prompt payments to specialists.

A closer look at the survey also reveals that such is the power and expertise of specialists that 87% produce their own designs and detailed layouts, a crucial part of the construction operation.

The survey further reveals that CCS members continue to lead the way in health and safety, the environment, sustainability and quality.

As a result of this survey the CCS, who offer BTEC Construction courses for specialists, now intend to expand its exchange of information with members to establish more clearly the problems and challenges they face in a modern construction market.

There is nothing new in the suggestion and it was done in cavalier way. That Israel should come down to the pre-1967 period, please note here, the position before the six day war fought between Israel and the Arab nations and the annexation by Israel of West Bank, East Jerusalem and part of Gaza strip, thus widening its influence. Obama appealed to Israeli government to return the annexed lands to Palestine thus enabling both Israel and Palestine to come to terms. Obama’s suggestion was summarily rejected by Netanyahu not at all surprising it and Netanyahu made it clear that there is no question of returning the captured lands as a large number of settlements have already risen up there and the question of demolishing them and vacating the places don’t arise.

Obama, or for that matter, even God Almighty won’t be able to prevail upon Israel and hence the possibility of ending the decades long strife between the two nations is out of question. The Republicans of America too are against the proposition of Barack Obama and they have extended whole-hearted support to Netanyahu.

Even before meeting each other one man putting forward a suggestion and the other man rejecting it outright sans any discussions the man from Israel together with his wife paying a visit to US must be a pleasure trip at the expense of his country.

Everybody in Pakistan was pleasantly surprised when he set up a broad based coalition government with his archrival – Nawaz Sharif. He outmanoeuvred Pervez Musharraf and displayed impressive political skill in getting him to resign. However, his support has waned very fast because he went back on written undertaking to reinstate the Chief Justice Musharraf had removed. He is the victim of the Sheikh Mujib syndrome. Mujib could be prime minister of Pakistan but he chose to be a prisoner. He did become the President of Bangladesh only to be assassinated by his own soldiers who saw the truth – he was an Indian agent. Asif Zardari must be pinching himself every morning wondering if he was the President of Pakistan. But agent handlers are not known to be kind and merciful; their business is blackmail; they keep their agents on a tight leash. They want Asif Ali Zardari to deliver; the time is running out fast.

He has help from India and the US to focus the ire of the international community on the ISI and the armed forces of Pakistan. America wants ‘full spectrum dominance’ over the world and Zardari (and co-conspirators) are telling them that the only institutions that stand in their way in South Asia are Pakistan’s intelligence and the armed forces. India and America are already working with him to make the armed power of the state of Pakistan to be directed against the Afghan and Kashmiri resistance. If they find the military leadership un-cooperative, AZ would turn on them. AZ tell his party that he seeks to end the military defying him on the pretext of ‘professional advice’ not because of Indian or American pressure, not because of lack of sympathy for the Kashmiri liberation struggle, but to establish the primacy of politicians for all times to come.

AZ wants to establish ‘full spectrum domination’ of his party over all the institutions of the state of Pakistan with the help of India and America under the cover of ‘war on terror’. He has already got his way over all the political parties, the judiciary and the civil service; the only resistance comes indirectly from those fighting the occupation in Kashmir and Afghanistan. India, America and Asif Zardari have a meeting of minds. They all see the resistance (in Afghanistan and Kashmir) as the enemy. If they could get the armed forces of Pakistan to fight the resistance in Kashmir and Afghanistan , both the challengers to ‘full spectrum domination’ (of America over the world and of AZ over Pakistan) would be mortally wounded in fighting each other. AZ hopes that the armed forces would have so little public adulation and support that they would never stand in the way of the political class whatever its wills, wants or does.

Rehman Malik

Rehman Malik is a right hand of Asif Ali Zardari, second in command and author Benazir Bhutto assassination, was born in Dalowali Sialkot. He began his career as an immigration officer and protector of immigrants in Rawalapindi Office. All the recruiting agents knew him then. He became the top-man in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the mid 90′s. During 26 years of active service as an officer of FIA, he has held the post of Additional Director General of FIA besides heading various regional offices of the department such as Crime Zone Peshawar, Immigration, Interpol and National Security Cell. He had been associated with anti-terrorism and anti-money launching operations of FIA which have earned for him recognition by the international law enforcement community. He was bestowed with Sitara-e-Shujaat in 1995.

Benazir Bhutto appointed Rehman Malik as the additional director-general of the FIA which then launched a secret war against the Islamist elements in Pakistan, which amounted to a direct attack on the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The Pakistani military was equally dismayed by reports of FIA contacts with the Israeli secret service, the Mossad, to investigate Islamist terrorists. The FIA leadership under Bhutto also angered Taliban supporters within the establishment, because they allowed the extradition of Ramzi Yousef to the US for trial on the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

One of the first acts of President Leghari after dismissing Benazir Bhutto on 5 November 1996 was to imprison Ghulam Asghar, head of FIA, suspended on non specified corruption charges, and Rehman Malik, Additional Director General of FIA, was also arrested also.

With the dismissal of the government of the PPP, Rehman Malik left the country and settled in the United Kingdom where he started his business and became a business tycoon.  Rehman Malik was the chief of the security of Benazir Bhutto when she returned home in 2007.There, he got involved with DM Digital Network with the head office at Manchester, UK. DM Digital announced that he was honourary director with no shares; Malik resigned before his appointment as Advisor/Minister to the Prime Minister for Interior.

Rehman Malik owns a private intelligence company in London, a British newspaper claimed in a report on Sunday. According to the report, Mr Malik submitted overdue annual returns and accounts to the Companies House in respect of the spy agency `Shaffaf Limited`. He has submitted the company`s accounts No. 03908422, and annual returns until 15/02/2012, the accounts made up to 31/05/2010.

Interestingly, the company`s registered office address is Shaffaf Limited, Suite 101-102, 38 Edgware Road, London, W2 2EW; and last week Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and PPP Chairman Bilawal Zardari had a lunch at the place.

Samsung’s counter lawsuit, its first against its biggest client, comes days before it launches a new product and could jeopardize business ties between the two companies, as Apple relies on Samsung for component supplies such as chips and LCD displays.

“Apple is quite annoyed by Samsung’s fast rise in a market which it virtually created,” James Song, an analyst at Daewoo Securities, said on Friday.

“It’s quite threatening to see how quickly Samsung plays catchup, and Apple cool gadgets might have felt a strong urge to put a brake on its march just when Samsung is set to roll out a new smartphone in May ahead of its new iPhone.”

Apple sold 18.6 million iPhones last quarter alone. Samsung, which had a fraction of the booming market until early last year, is estimated to have sold around 13 million units of smartphones in January-March and aims to sell 60 million units this year.

Apple filed a lawsuit last Friday alleging Samsung violated patents and trademarks of its iPhone and iPad, as the popular gadgets are being threatened by the fast rise of rival devices based on Google’s free Android operating system.

Samsung said in a statement on Friday that Apple’s iPhone and iPad infringe Samsung’s 10 mobile technology patents and it called for Apple to stop infringing its technology and compensate the company.

“Samsung is responding actively to the legal action taken against us in order to protect our intellectual property and to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communications business,” the statement said.

Global technology companies are locked in a web of litigation as they try to defend their shares of the booming tablet and smartphone wholesale accessories market.

Strong sales of the iPhone and iPad translate into more revenue for Samsung. Apple was Samsung’s second-biggest client after Japan’s Sony Corp last year, bringing in around 6.2 trillion Korean won ($5.7 billion) of sales, and is widely expected to become Samsung’s top client this year.

“But both know that they need each other. Apple can’t suddenly change to other company for supplies of memory chips and mobile processors, because there’s no one able to meet Apple’s requirement in terms of technology and capacity other than Samsung.” Song said.

The battle comes ahead of Samsung launching a new version of its successful Galaxy S smartphone next week in Korea, a key product for the world’s No.2 handset maker to meet its target of 60 million units of smartphone sales this year.

Shares in Samsung, Asia’s biggest technology company with a market value of $140 billion, closed down 2.6 percent after three consecutive sessions of gains in a flat cool gadgets market.
