Note the times when science advanced the most rapidly:
Greece: mostly free economy though they made many mistakes as well
Rome: Best government ever (before the imperial takeover) up until America.
Britain: (to some extent) Constitutional monarchy more free than actual monarchy
And of course America: Very little regulation of economy until the great depression.

Of course money and politics are a bad combonation. That is why the gvernment needs to have? no influence over the economy. Their job is the protection of individual rights NOTHING else.
